How the audit works
Three inputs, one comparison. You tell the calculator where you ship from, how many packages you send monthly, and what you typically ship — it compares your current setup’s estimated cost per label against the best commercial-tier rate available for that profile, and shows the monthly gap. The recommendation that follows is profile-based: low-volume US stores are pointed to a free option we earn nothing from, growing stores to automation platforms, EU stores to EU-native tools.
Where the numbers come from
Every rate in this tool is derived from carrier-published 2026 pricing — the commercial rate tables USPS, UPS and partner carriers publish — expressed as percentage discounts rather than hardcoded prices, so results stay accurate when carriers apply their annual rate increases. A surcharge coefficient (15% domestic, 22% cross-border, 35% long-haul international) reflects current fuel and seasonal fees. Results are estimates for decision-making, not binding quotes: your exact rate always depends on your specific zones, weights and dimensions. Is this calculator really free?
Yes — completely, with no signup and no email required to see your result. The optional email step at the end only exists if you want the full carrier-by-carrier report sent to your inbox. The site is funded through affiliate partnerships with some (not all) of the platforms we recommend, disclosed on every page.
How accurate are the results?
Accurate enough to make a switching decision, not to invoice against. The tool uses carrier-published commercial rates and conservative surcharge coefficients, but it can’t see your exact parcel dimensions, zones or negotiated terms. Treat the output as a well-sourced estimate of your savings range — then verify the exact figure inside the platform you choose, before committing to anything.
Which platforms can it recommend?
Five, matched to your profile: Pirate Ship (free — we earn nothing recommending it), Shippo, ShipStation, SendCloud for EU-based stores, and Easyship for international-heavy sellers. The recommendation logic is volume- and geography-based, not commission-based: the free option wins for small US stores every time.
Do you have a calculator for 3PL and fulfillment costs?
Not yet — it’s in active development. If you ship 500+ orders a month, the real question stops being “which label platform” and becomes “should a 3PL take over fulfillment entirely.” Our 3PL switching guide covers the decision manually until the calculator lands.
Do I have to switch platforms to use my result?
No. Most platforms connect alongside your store and only change where you buy the label — your checkout, tracking emails and customer experience stay identical. The switch takes under 20 minutes and reverses with one click.
